Evergreen Farm Publishing

Evergreen Farm Publishing was established to publish the complete works of Catherine Marshall, The New York Times best-selling author, and works of Dr. Peter Marshall, Chaplain of the United States Senate.

The New York Times called Catherine Marshall “America’s most inspirational author”.  She struck a chord with readers with her frank, hard-hitting and vulnerable writing.  Her writing spanned four decades, six continents and reached over 30 million readers.

Christy, The New York Times best-selling novel authored by Catherine, captured the hearts of millions and became a popular CBS television series.

Based on the life of Catherine’s mother, Leonora Wood, a nineteen year old teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in poverty-stricken Tennessee, Christy inspired many to became teachers in underserved communities.

Living well into her nineties, Leonora Wood remained at Evergreen Farm continuing her love of gardening, faith, and family.

Dr. Peter Marshall, Chaplain of the United States Senate, confidant to the most powerful, drew unusually large crowds with his dynamic preaching at The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C.  He later served as Chaplain of the United States Senate.

Known for his rollicking sense of humor, he demonstrated to young and old that Christianity can be fun. His lyrical, poetic preaching and direct approach to the issues of the day touched the lives of many until his untimely death in 1949. Catherine’s telling of his life story in A Man Called Peter launched her own writing career.

In 1959, Catherine, the author, married Leonard LeSourd, the editor. Together they formed an enduring marriage of 23 years and unique collaboration on many books, including Christy and Julie. Partners with John and Tibby Sherrill, they developed a publishing company housed in its early years at Evergreen Farm in Lincoln, Virginia.

In the same spirit, the Marshall and LeSourd families launched this publishing imprint, named after the home where family gathered and Catherine and Len wrote, edited, and collaborated together.
